Recently a good friend gave me an old 3D printer, a MakerBot Replicator clone – my first. So I learned to design models using FreeCAD. Since then it’s died and I’ve just assembled a new Prusa printer to replace it.
I’ll be publishing interesting designs on Printables.
Early learning’s
Autumn Tech Tiles
Using an old Maxon motor and encoder, I built this thing tile by tile over cold autumn days. I mainly made this to learn how to use FreeCAD, learn how to print in 3D and to show the kids how mechanical movements work. It uses an RP2040 running Python to control power to the DC motor. All elements are original, except planetary bearing design, which comes from Emmett Lalish. I was also inspired by http://507movements.com/
Plans to build your own are here Printables – Autumn Tech Tiles
Super Loud Portable Siren
Motivated by old style Cold War warning siren and made with leftover RC bits. Design files are in Printables – Portable Siren
LexBot Mk I
Made from leftover servos and an ESP32 running Python. These are its first steps.
LexBot Mk II
Now with new body, but not happy
Now with new legs, and getting there.
